Our robots are driving in the plane only. Even though they are able to move freely in two dimensions, they are still unable to utilise the third dimension. A friend of mine conducts research in the area of realtime systems and QuadCopters. He has recently released a demo video on his webpage that shows the impressive progress the project has made. The hardware as well as software components were developed by him and his team.
Maybe a new research direction? Bats are actually flying, too… :)
