Carpe Noctem Robotic Soccer

The RoboCup German Open 2008 are over but some teams are looking forward to the RoboCup World Championships in Suzhou, China in about two months. We will not take part as we do not have the funding and nobody has any free time left. We concentrated on the German Open with more or less success. [...]

We’ve lost the half final against CoPS Stuttgart with 1:2 but the game was great! We shot the first goal and hit a ball CoPS kicked on our goal line into our own goal (sad but ok). Both teams decided to go for a golden goal in the extra time. CoPS’ players were more concentrated [...]

Today the games of the second round robin were scheduled, staring at 11am with Carpe Noctem against Brainstormer Tribots. We never really thought about shooting a goal against the current world champions and we lost 0:6 but the game was far from boring.

The second and last game for today finally looked good. The first half was chaotic like before. At halftime we decided to force roles on the robots instead of calculating them with the role assignment.
With that we were able to win the game against ISePorto with 0:3.
One step closer to Robocup German Open 2008 champion!

Today’s game was much better than the last one. We won 4:0 against PaderKickers.
It was not perfect but no robot stopped working completely.
We still have problems when there are too many of our players on the field. The new static communication-middleware was a huge success and made this game possible. Since it is static it [...]

We had our first game yesterday, CoPS vs. Carpe Noctem. It started late because of the usual delays at 19:15. The first half was not so bad even though we noticed very strange behavior of our robots. The first half ended 0:2 for us.

Long time has gone since the last post and this is the first post from the German Open Open 2008 in Hannover. The last two days were quite stressful and an emotional roller coaster. Nothing was really finished or working, a camera stopped working, and the motion of one of our robots stroke a light.

We’re currently preparing for the RoboCup German Open. Till was asked to write a kicking behaviour to make the most of our new kicking device. The following happened this afternoon when testing and calibrating the kicker:
